Recently, I had the privilege of sitting down with Stephanie Winn to share my detransition story, my struggles with trauma, and my decision to file a complaint against the therapist who "affirmed" my identity rather than addressing the root of my distress. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to have such an open and honest conversation—one that didn't shy away from the difficult realities of transition and detransition.
Stephanie’s thoughtful approach and willingness to explore the complexities of my journey made this interview a powerful experience. Too often, conversations around detransitioning are silenced or dismissed, but she provided a space where my voice, and the voices of so many others like me, could be heard.
One of the most meaningful aspects of our discussion was the emphasis on trauma—the often-overlooked driving force behind many transition decisions. We examined the role of internalized homophobia, childhood wounds, and the systemic failures in mental health care that led me down this path. Stephanie also highlighted the importance of accountability in therapy, including the significance of filing complaints against unethical practitioners. Her template for reporting negligent therapists was invaluable in helping me take that step.
As I continue this journey, I’m more committed than ever to speaking out, sharing my story, and advocating for mental health practices that prioritize true healing over superficial affirmation. If you haven’t yet watched our conversation, I highly encourage you to do so.
In closing, if you're someone who has experienced similar challenges with therapy, know that you're not alone—there is power in reclaiming your truth.
Thank you, Stephanie, for your time, your empathy, and your dedication to having these much-needed conversations. I look forward to continuing the dialogue.
